It’s definitely early Spring here now, and the birds are loud. This reminds me: won’t you think of all the smol animals being born this spring? That means being extra-careful when out in nature or driving in wooded areas and extra-attentive about what your dog or cat is doing outside, lest they add to the apocalyptic death rate among infant animals. Between climate change, cars, habitat destruction, disease and predators they have enough problems.
We still let Zelda off in the spring, but we’re much more careful than the normal level of careful about when and how, for this reason. If there aren’t already several dogs in her favorite field, I look around to see if there are any signs a fledgling bird has fallen out of its nest or anything like that before letting her off. And I try not to let her chase squirrels in spring.
An infant crow (a chick, technically) complains, presumably loudly, to an adult. Pretty sure it’s not a raven. Might be wrong. (Giphy/BBC America)
